Cesar Garcia

Cesar Garcia

Cesar Garcia is the Founder, Director and Chief Curator of The Mistake Room—LA’s international contemporary art space. A scholar, writer, curator and educator, Garcia formerly served as Associate Director and Senior Curator of LAXART (2007-2012) and as US Commissioner for the 13th International Cairo Biennale (2012-2013). In 2008 Garcia served on the curatorial team of the 2008 California Biennial and in 2012 he was one of the curators of Made in L.A., the first Los Angeles Biennial organized by The Hammer Museum and LAXART. In 2015 he was appointed one of the curators of The Current, Vienna-based foundation TBA21’s new triennium.

Janet Koplos

Janet Koplos

Janet Koplos is co-author of Makers: A History of American Studio Craft (2010) and author of Contemporary Japanese Sculpture (1990) and other books. She has written extensively on crafts and on American, Japanese and Dutch contemporary art and has published approximately 2,500 articles, reviews and essays in some two dozen periodicals over the last 30 years. She lectures, critiques and juries frequently, and has taught at Parsons The New School for Design and Pratt Institute in New York, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. She was for 18 years a staff editor at Art in America magazine and is currently a contributing editor.

She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Minnesota and holds a master’s degree from Illinois State University. She received a National Endowment for the Arts critic’s grant early in her career, in 2010 was named an Honorary Fellow of the American Crafts Council, and in 2015 was awarded an Art Writers Grant from the Warhol Foundation and Creative Capital. She is currently working on two books, one on the aesthetics and philosophy of American functional pottery, based on interviews with potters across the country, and the other a history of the New Art Examiner, a sometimes-controversial publication based in Chicago, which published from 1973 to 2002.

Diana Nawi

Diana Nawi

Diana Nawi is Associate Curator at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), where she has curated exhibitions including Adler Guerrier: Formulating a Plot, Iman Issa: Heritage Studies, and Nari Ward: Sun Splashed, a mid-career survey of the artist’s work. Nawi has organized newly commissioned projects with Yael Bartana, Nicole Cherubini, Bouchra Khalili, LOS JAICHACKERS (Julio César Morales and Eamon Ore-Giron), Shana Lutker, and most recently, Matthew Ronay. Prior to joining PAMM, Nawi worked as an assistant curator on the Abu Dhabi Project of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and served as a fellow at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Nawi received her MA from the Williams College Graduate Program in the History of Art and her BA from the University of California, Los Angeles.
